by Fialová Daniela, PharmD, PhD Chair of the Scientific Committee
We are proud to host the 42nd ESCP Symposium on Clinical Pharmacy in the beautiful city of Prague in October 2013. We would like to thank you for visiting the symposium website and considering your attendance.
The high-quality scientific programme of the symposium, put together with great care by Daniela Fialova, will be an excellent opportunity to share your invaluable experience and/or theoretical knowledge not only with our young colleagues who just recently started building their careers in the field of clinical pharmacy, but also an opportunity for the clinical pharmacy itself. The symposium presents a chance to build an unofficial international network of experts that anyone involved can benefit from. It will be supported by an excellent social programme ideas provided by Irena Netikova. For the first-time attendees, it will be a great chance to meet the “clinical pharmacist family” and start cooperating with them.
Local hosts will be the Czech Medical Association of J.E. Purkyně represented by the Czech Pharmaceutical Society (section of Clinical Pharmacy) (CFS) and Czech Society of Clinical Pharmacy (CSCP).
The Charles Bridge and the Astronomical Clock were chosen as the symbols of the symposium.
The bridge is a symbol of pharmacist from the various fields of pharmacy meeting not only each other, but patients and health care workers as well. It can connect areas that are not easily accessible because of various obstacles standing in the way.
The clock measures time – clinical pharmacy has developed for many years based on the volunteer’s activity only. Nowadays, it is a legitimate field of health care with the ability to implement its progress much more effectively into practice, improving the quality, effectiveness and safety of pharmacotherapy.
Clinical Pharmacy has a long history in the Czech Republic. It developed as a part of an undergraduate study of pharmacy at the Charles University in Prague and was later introduced as a post gradual specialty form 1990 on, the PhD. programme followed 4 years later. Implementation of clinical pharmacy into continual education and building interactive dispensation courses lead by clinical pharmacists and physicians is a unique project established 5 years ago.
Prague is located in the centre of Europe, well accessible by plane, for the Central and Eastern Europeans by train and/or by car as well. To facilitate their attendance, we are looking into several financial sources to fund at least a part of their expenses. We are applying for the standard Visegrad grant for the implementation of clinical pharmacy into education, research and practice in the Visegrad countries - Poland, Hungry, Slovak and Czech Republic.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in Prague in 2013 and we firmly believe that you will enjoy the beauty of our capital city, its remarkable architecture, culture and cuisine.
